Emerging Leader Board Fellowship Program

The Emerging Leader Board Fellowship is a 12-month mentored leadership opportunity designed to introduce emerging leaders to nonprofit governance, community impact, and board service in a supportive, hands-on way.

This fellowship allows participants to learn how a board functions, contribute their voice and perspective, and build confidence as future leaders—without the pressure of full board responsibilities.

What You’ll Experience

  • Exposure to nonprofit leadership and governance

  • Insight into how programs, partnerships, and decisions are shaped

  • Opportunities to observe and engage with different board functions

  • Guidance, mentorship, and encouragement along the way

Program Overview

The Chin Up, Girl Board Fellowship is designed in three phases. This structure ensures fellows gain a holistic understanding of governance, operations, leadership, and impact before assuming formal board roles.

Phase 1

Core Board Rotations

(Weeks 1–42)

During this phase, fellows rotate through key areas of board leadership to gain a well-rounded understanding of Chin Up, Girl’s mission, programs, governance, and community partnerships. This period is focused on observation, learning, and relationship-building rather than decision-making.

Phase 2

Focus Area Deep Dive

(Weeks 43-48)

Fellows select one or two areas of interest within the organization to explore more deeply, contributing support, ideas, and hands-on assistance alongside board leaders. This phase allows fellows to strengthen skills, clarify leadership interests, and deepen their impact in a meaningful way.

Phase 3

Capstone & Leadership

(Weeks 49-52)

In the final phase, fellows complete a capstone project that reflects their learning, growth, and alignment with Chin Up, Girl’s mission. This phase centers on leadership development, reflection, and preparation for future board service or continued organizational involvement.

Rotational Learning Areas

During the fellowship, you’ll rotate through short learning periods with board members to gain insight into:

  • Organizational vision and leadership

  • Programs and survivor-centered services

  • Volunteer and community engagement

  • Financial sustainability (high-level overview)

  • Board governance and operations

Each rotation is designed for learning, observation, and reflection.

Your Role & Responsibilities

  • Attend board meetings

  • Participate in mentorship check-ins

  • Support public-facing events when available

  • Share youth and community perspectives

  • Ask questions, learn, and grow
