About the Event
Walk It Out: Domestic Violence Memorial & Survivor Walk is a community-centered event created to honor survivors, remember the lives lost to domestic violence, and bring visibility to the growing impact of domestic violence right here in Rutherford County.
To our knowledge, this is the first community-organized memorial and survivor walk to be held in Murfreesboro in over 15 years.
Why we walk
In 2024 alone, the Murfreesboro Police Department reported 2,726 domestic violence cases, and the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office reported an additional 590. Across Tennessee, more than 60,000 domestic violence victims were reported in a single year; 43,013 of them women.
By mid-April 2026, multiple domestic violence-related homicides had already been recorded in Murfreesboro and Rutherford County, including the deaths of young women and mothers whose lives were taken by current or former partners.
These aren't distant headlines. They are our neighbors, our coworkers, our family members.
